Le match débuta à  Sveti Stefan, la plus huppée des stations balnéaires de l'ex-Yougoslavie. Cette petite zone franche abritait un superbe complexe hôtelier appartenant à  Jezdimir Vasiljevic. La bourse allouée aux deux joueurs était de cinq millions de dollars : 3.35 millions pour le gagnant et 1.65 pour le perdant.
